Description

 Responsible for providing education in all state construction codes and city ordinances to residents, contractors, and design professionals, thus ensuring code compliance through increased awareness and understanding of the intent and purpose of those codes and ordinances.  Work includes plan review and inspection of all types of construction, except for electrical.  This position involves significant contact with the public, answering questions, responding to calls, assisting walk-in customers, and writing reports.

Salary range maximum is $97,641.  Senior level available for qualified applicants who meet state delegation agreement requirements, salary range $84,894 - $106,117.  http://www.dli.mn.gov/workers/building-officials/municipal-delegation-agreements
Requirements
Certification as a MN Building Official Limited by the MN Dept of Labor and Industry.
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Previous experience as an inspector or progressive construction experience.
Knowledge of construction codes, ordinances, laws and regulations.
Ability to effectively work with other inspectors and staff to complete work.
Ability to work with public to mediate and resolve code/compliance issues.
Ability to work within an inspection schedule to meet deadlines and handle changes or additions to schedule or work as needed.
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing with people from all cultures and backgrounds.
Demonstrated competence and comfort with supporting the city’s strategic objectives for advancing racial equity.
Ability to physically move about all areas of construction sites to carry out duties.
Valid driver’s license.
